India's battery market has gotten crowded fast — lithium-first manufacturers building specifically for EVs and modern storage sit alongside long-established names moving into lithium from a lead-acid background, and telling a genuinely capable manufacturer from a marketing-heavy one isn't always obvious from a product listing alone.

Start with certification, because it's the one thing that's independently verifiable rather than a manufacturer's own claim. AIS 156 is India's mandatory government safety standard for EV-relevant lithium batteries — ask for the Type Approval Certificate for the specific model you're buying, not just a general claim of "certified." ISO 9001:2015 signals a manufacturer has a formal, audited quality-management system in place across production, not just for one flagship product line.

Look past the headline Ah and voltage numbers to usable depth of discharge, cycle-life figures the manufacturer is willing to publish (not just claim), and whether the BMS includes active protection and, ideally, remote monitoring. A manufacturer that publishes detailed spec sheets and stands behind them with a written warranty is telling you something different than one that only advertises a price.

Service network matters more with lithium than it did with lead-acid, precisely because lithium packs are expected to last years rather than months — you want a manufacturer whose dealer and service-center coverage actually reaches where you are, not just a national brand name with no local support. For commercial and fleet buyers, this is often the deciding factor over any single spec.

Finally, weigh manufacturing scale and track record against your specific use case. A manufacturer with real production volume, in-house R&D, and a multi-year history of dealer and OEM relationships has generally been tested by the market in ways a brand-new entrant hasn't — but that doesn't mean bigger is always better for a specialized or custom application. Match the evaluation to what you're actually buying: a mass-market inverter battery has different priorities than a custom industrial pack.
